Chengdu is a city and the capital of Sichuan Province in China, located 500 meters above sea level in the Minjiang River valley in southwest Mainland China. It has an area of 14,334 square kilometers and is home to more than 20 million people. Chengdu is the fifth largest city in China after Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The climate is humid subtropical with hot humid summers and warm dry winters. In summer the average temperature is +25 °С and quite often reaches +35 °С and higher. The average winter temperature is +5°C, sometimes there are frosts and snowfalls. In the summer months, the city receives a large amount of precipitation, often in the form of torrential downpours.
Today Chengdu is the most important economic, scientific, financial, industrial and transport center of China. The city is home to manufacturing facilities for electrical appliances, automobiles, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals and food products of major Chinese companies.
