Ghandruk is a mountain village located in the Kaski District of central Nepal, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of Pokhara, the country’s second-largest city. It serves as the starting point for several world-famous trekking routes, including those leading to Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill (3,193 m / 10,476 ft). From the village, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna — some of the most iconic peaks of the Himalayas. Mount Annapurna, the highest summit of the Annapurna massif, rises to 8,091 meters (26,545 feet), making it the tenth-highest mountain in the world.
The Annapurna region and its surroundings are part of the Annapurna Conservation Area, one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations. The area is known for its dramatic landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and extensive network of trekking trails that attract visitors from all over the world. Within the park lie some of Nepal’s most famous natural and cultural landmarks — Tilicho Lake, the Muktinath Temple complex, the world’s largest rhododendron forest, and the Marsyangdi and Kali Gandaki river valleys.
Hotel Milan and Restaurant is a legendary family-run lodge located in the heart of Ghandruk. Opened in the 1970s, it was one of the first and most welcoming guesthouses for trekkers heading toward Annapurna and Poon Hill. The hotel sits in the center of the village and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas — Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli.
The property features 12 clean rooms equipped with hot water, Wi-Fi, and warm blankets — everything a traveler needs after a day on the trail. The restaurant is famous for its homemade meals, including fresh vegetables from the family garden, dal bhat, momo, soups, and baked goods. The Shankar Bahadur Gurung family has been welcoming guests with warm Nepali hospitality for three generations, making every visitor feel at home in the mountains.
