Medina Live Webcam, Saudi Arabia
Live broadcast from the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia.
Medina (Arabic: المدينة المنوّرة, English: Medina) is the second holiest city in Islam after Mecca, located in the historic Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia, approximately 200 km from the Red Sea coast and 450 km from Mecca. Its full name, Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, translates to “The Enlightened City” or “Blessed Medina.” Medina holds a central place in Islamic history. In 622 CE, the Prophet Muhammad migrated here from Mecca—a historic event known as the Hijra—which marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
The city’s most important religious site is Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (The Prophet’s Mosque), founded by Prophet Muhammad himself. Beneath its famous Green Dome lies the Prophet’s tomb, along with the graves of the first two righteous caliphs, Abu Bakr and Umar ibn al-Khattab. Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is the second holiest mosque in Islam after Al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites worldwide. Medina is also renowned for its historic marketplace, where pilgrims can purchase traditional Arabic souvenirs, spices, and incense.
Today, Medina is a major religious and cultural center in Saudi Arabia, with a population of around 1.5 million. The city is modernizing while preserving its spiritual and historical heritage. Its historic district is home to numerous mosques, Islamic schools, museums, and religious centers, including Quba Mosque, the first mosque built in Islam. Modern infrastructure includes Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, newly built highways, and the Haramain High-Speed Railway, connecting Medina with Mecca and Jeddah.
Medina has a hot desert climate (Köppen BWh). Summers, from May to October, are extremely hot, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 104°F (40°C) and sometimes reaching 116°F (47°C). Winters are mild and dry, with average daytime temperatures around 77°F (25°C) and nighttime lows around 59°F (15°C). Annual rainfall is minimal, about 40 mm, making Medina one of the driest major cities in the world.
Like Mecca, Medina is closed to non-Muslims; entry is allowed only for Muslims. Each year, millions of believers visit during Hajj and Umrah to pray at the Prophet’s Mosque and other sacred sites. This online live webcam in Medina offers a panoramic view of the city and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, one of the most recognizable religious landmarks in the world. The camera allows viewers to see the sacred complex, its minarets, and the Green Dome in real time.
