Veszprem is a city and the administrative center of the Veszprem County in Hungary, it is located on the banks of the Sed River in western parts of the country, 15 km from the northwestern coast of Lake Balaton and 110 km south-west of Budapest. The city was founded during the reign of King Stephen Saint and is one of the oldest cities in Hungary. Veszprem has the area about 127 km², it is home to more than 60 000 people. Veszprem is well known for a large number of architectural and historical sights; the city has more historical monuments than any other city in Hungary. The most important sights of the city include: Saint Michael’s Cathedral in Romanesque style, built in 1001, Blessed Gisella Chapel, Statues of King Stephen and Queen Gisela, the old Fire Tower of the 15th century, the Bishop’s Palace, the Petofi Theater of Veszprém and many others.
