Brisbane is the capital city of the Australian state of Queensland, located on the country’s east coast. The city stretches along the Brisbane River, which flows into Moreton Bay, about 920 km (570 miles) north of Sydney and 1,700 km (1,056 miles) south of Cairns. With a population of around 2.5 million and an area of approximately 15,842 km² (6,116 mi²), Brisbane is the largest city in Australia by area and the third most populous, after Sydney and Melbourne.

Among Brisbane’s most notable attractions are its historic city center with 19th-century buildings such as Brisbane City Hall and St. John’s Cathedral, as well as the Queensland Cultural Centre, which includes the State Library, the Queensland Art Gallery, and the Queensland Museum. One of the city’s main natural attractions is Moreton Island, which lies just off the coast, separating Moreton Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The island is home to Moreton Island National Park, famous for its pristine beaches, water sports, and dolphin-watching opportunities.

Brisbane is also the third-largest economic hub in Australia. Its key industries include technology and innovation, tourism, agriculture, and international trade. The Port of Brisbane ranks among the country’s largest export gateways, handling coal, agricultural products, and raw materials. The city has become a growing center for startups, research, and innovation projects.

Each year, millions of tourists are drawn to Brisbane for its subtropical climate, cultural landmarks, and major events such as expos and festivals. Brisbane Airport is one of the busiest in Australia, serving both domestic and international destinations.
