The live webcam shows the Pyramids of Giza in real time, located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt.
The Pyramids of Giza โ also known as the Giza Pyramid Complex โ are a group of ancient monumental structures and one of the most iconic symbols of Ancient Egypt. Situated on the west bank of the Nile River, about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of modern Cairo, the site includes the Three Great Pyramids of Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mykerinos), the Great Sphinx, several smaller โQueenโs Pyramids,โ as well as causeways, valley temples, and workersโ cemeteries. The Giza Pyramids are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site โMemphis and its Necropolis โ the Pyramid Fields from Giza to Dahshur.โ The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the only surviving structure of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The three main pyramids were built during Egyptโs Fourth Dynasty, around the 26thโ25th centuries BCE. The Great Pyramid of Khufu was completed in the early 25th century BCE and remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for nearly 4,000 years. Most of the pyramids were constructed from local limestone, with finer Tura limestone used for outer casing and granite for interior chambers. Modern research projects, including ScanPyramids, have revealed previously unknown cavities, corridors, and underground structures, shedding new light on the engineering techniques and internal design of the pyramids.
On the eastern side of the complex stands the Great Sphinx of Giza, a massive limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The plateau also features smaller satellite pyramids, mortuary temples, causeways linking the valley temples to the main pyramids, and tombs of nobles and workers. Today, the Pyramids of Giza remain Egyptโs most famous attraction, drawing millions of visitors each year from around the world. Guided tours allow travelers to explore the interiors of the Pyramids of Khufu and Khafre, offering a unique glimpse into one of humanityโs greatest architectural achievements.
