Paje is a coastal resort village and a long stretch of sandy beach on the southeastern shore of Zanzibar Island. It lies between the settlements of Bwejuu and Jambiani, about 45 km (28 mi) southeast of Zanzibar City. Paje Beach is covered with fine white sand and is recognized as one of the worldβs top destinations for kiteboarding and windsurfing, thanks to the steady side winds that blow almost year-round. The beach forms a wide, shallow lagoon protected by an offshore reef, which at low tide reveals vast sand flats stretching up to 1.5 kilometers (nearly a mile).
Paje is considered one of the main kitesurfing hubs in Zanzibar and East Africa. The beach features numerous kite schools and equipment rentals, offering ideal conditions for both beginners and experienced riders. Along the coastline, visitors will find guesthouses, lodges, restaurants, and beach bars. The local infrastructure is primarily geared toward active tourism and water sports. Nightlife in Paje is more relaxed compared to the islandβs northern resorts, making it a favorite destination for travelers seeking a balance of daytime adventure and peaceful evenings.
