Kufstein (German: Kufstein, Bavarian: Kufstoa) is a picturesque town in the federal state of Tyrol, western Austria. It is known for its rich history, cultural landmarks, and stunning natural landscapes. The town is located on the banks of the Inn River, nestled between the Kaiser Mountains (Kaisergebirge) and the Bavarian Alps, at an elevation of approximately 499 meters (1,637 feet) above sea level, near the border with Germany. Kufstein lies about 75 kilometers (47 miles) northeast of Innsbruck and approximately 95 kilometers (59 miles) southwest of Salzburg. With a population of around 20,000 and covering an area of about 39 square kilometers (15 square miles), it is the second-largest town in Tyrol after Innsbruck.
