Innsbruck is the capital and largest city of the federal state of Tyrol in western Austria, and one of the country’s major urban centers. Covering an area of 105 square kilometers (40.5 square miles), the city is home to approximately 131,961 residents, making it the fifth-largest city in Austria. Innsbruck is one of the leading ski destinations not only in Austria but in all of Europe. Towering above the city is Mount Hafelekarspitze, which rises to 2,334 meters (7,657 feet) above sea level. It is part of the Nordkette mountain range that stretches north of Innsbruck.
