Kufstein is a picturesque city and the administrative center of the Kufstein District in Austria. It is located in the federal state of Tyrol, approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles) northeast of Innsbruck and about 95 kilometers (59 miles) southwest of Salzburg. The city sits on the banks of the Inn River at an elevation of around 499 meters (1,637 feet) above sea level, nestled between the Kaiser Mountains (Kaisergebirge) and the Bavarian Alps, near the border with Germany. Kufstein is known for its rich history, stunning natural landscapes, and cultural landmarks.

The city covers an area of approximately 39 square kilometers (15 square miles). As of 2023, its population is about 20,000 residents, making it the second-largest city in Tyrol after Innsbruck. Kufstein is a popular holiday destination for both Austrians and Germans and is also considered an important regional industrial center. The city is home to the production of Kneissl sporting goods, Voere hunting equipment, and high-end glassware from the renowned brand Riedel.

Notable attractions in Kufstein include the medieval Kufstein Fortress (dating from the 13th to 16th centuries), the Kufstein Town Hall located on the main square (Unterer Stadtplatz), and Hohenstaffing Castle.
