Silbertal is a picturesque alpine municipality nestled in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg. This charming destination attracts visitors with its rich history, cultural landmarks, and a wide range of outdoor activities. The village lies at an elevation of approximately 890 meters (2,920 feet) above sea level, in the eastern part of the Montafon Valley. It is surrounded by majestic mountain peaks such as Lobspitze (2,605 meters / 8,547 feet) and Muttjöchle (2,074 meters / 6,804 feet). As of 2024, Silbertal has a population of around 880 residents and covers an area of about 88.61 square kilometers (34.22 square miles).

Silbertal offers numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation throughout the year. In summer, the area is popular for hiking and mountain biking, with scenic trails leading to natural spots like the high alpine Wildried moor and the Mittagjoch Pass. In winter, visitors enjoy skiing and snowboarding, as well as winter hiking along groomed trails. The village also hosts cultural events during the summer months, including open-air theatrical performances inspired by local legends and traditions.

Main attractions in Silbertal include the Parish Church of Silbertal (Pfarrkirche Silbertal) – known for having the tallest spire in the Montafon region at 57 meters (187 feet); the Kristberg Mountain Church; and the Montafon Mining Museum (Montafoner Bergbaumuseum), which is located in the municipal building and features around 500 artifacts related to the region’s mining history. Silbertal Open-Air Stage (Freilichtbühne Silbertal) – one of the largest of its kind in Europe, where theatrical performances based on regional legends are held.
