Todorka Mountain (also known as Todorov Peak) is one of the most famous and highest peaks at the Bansko Ski Resort in Bulgaria. Not only is it a popular tourist attraction, but it also serves as a key landmark for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly skiers and snowboarders. The mountain captivates visitors with its majestic presence, stunning panoramic views, and diverse range of ski runs.
Todorka is located in the Pirin Mountains, a part of a larger mountain range in southwestern Bulgaria, approximately 150 kilometers (about 93 miles) south of Sofia. The peak rises to 2,748 meters (9,015 feet) above sea level, making it one of the tallest summits in the region. It is situated on the southern slopes of the Pirin range and lies within Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area draws visitors year-round, not only for its winter sports but also for its breathtaking natural landscapes during the warmer months.
Todorka Mountain is a central feature of the Bansko Ski Resort. The summit is accessible via a network of modern ski lifts that provide comfortable and efficient transportation to various slopes. From the Banderishka Polyana area—the resort’s main hub—skiers can reach the mountain using both chairlifts and gondolas. These lifts ensure seamless connectivity between the resort’s base and the mountain peaks, including Todorka itself. At the top of Todorka, there is also an upper gondola station that offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Todorka is a prime area for alpine skiing and snowboarding, featuring slopes suitable for all skill levels. In total, more than 15 kilometers (over 9.3 miles) of ski runs wind down its slopes, including areas for freestyle and snowboard activities. The mountain offers green and blue runs for beginners as well as more challenging red and black slopes for experienced skiers. One of Bansko’s key features is its well-designed system of illuminated trails for night skiing.
During the summer, Todorka becomes a destination for hikers and mountain climbers. From its summit, visitors are treated to sweeping views of the region, including crystal-clear lakes, alpine meadows, and forested mountain ranges filled with evergreen trees. Adventurers can explore a variety of hiking trails of varying difficulty levels that lead to unique natural landmarks and spectacular viewpoints. Several popular routes start from Todorka, connecting to other parts of Pirin National Park, including Vihren Peak—the second-highest mountain in Bulgaria.
