Burgas is the administrative center of the Burgas Province and the fourth most populous city in Bulgaria, after Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna. It is located on the western shore of the Burgas Bay on the Black Sea, approximately 267 kilometers (166 miles) east of Plovdiv and 133 kilometers (83 miles) south of Varna. With a population of around 211,850 people, Burgas is the largest city in the southeastern part of the country.

The city is a major transportation and industrial hub in Bulgaria. It is home to the country’s largest seaport, as well as an international airport located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northeast of the city center. Burgas is well connected by an extensive network of roads and railways, including the Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII.

One of the city’s most notable landmarks is the Sea Garden (also known as the Primorski Park), a national monument of landscape architecture stretching along the coastline. The park features scenic walking paths, fountains, sculptures, cafés, and an open-air theater.

In the heart of the city, early 20th-century buildings in Art Nouveau and Rationalist styles have been preserved, giving Burgas a unique architectural character. The city is also known for its natural attractions, including Lake Burgas, Lake Atanasovsko, Lake Mandrensko, and the Poda Nature Reserve, which is a sanctuary for numerous bird species.
