Trakia is located in the southeastern part of Plovdiv. It was built between 1973 and 1976 to address the housing needs of the rapidly growing city. Trakia is the youngest district of Plovdiv and the third largest residential area in Bulgaria. It also includes an industrial zone, primarily home to companies in the electronics sector. Today, Trakia boasts a well-developed urban infrastructure, featuring shops, shopping centers, medical clinics, kindergartens, and schools. The district is divided into 13 residential neighborhoods and includes approximately 260 apartment buildings.
Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria and serves as the administrative center of the Plovdiv Province. The city covers an area of around 110 square kilometers (about 42.5 square miles) and has a population of approximately 384,156 people. Plovdiv is currently the second most important industrial hub in Bulgaria after Sofia, and the largest and most significant urban center in the agricultural region of the Upper Thracian Plain.
