Summit of Kitzsteinhorn Mountain Webcam, Kaprun, Austria
The webcam provides a view from the summit of Kitzsteinhorn Mountain at the Kaprun ski resort in Austria.
Kitzsteinhorn (German: Kitzsteinhorn) is located in the Austrian Alps, within the federal state of Salzburg, approximately 9 kilometers (about 5.6 miles) southwest of Kaprun and 8 kilometers (about 5 miles) from Zell am See. Its elevation reaches 3,203 meters (10,509 feet) above sea level. The mountain is part of the Glockner Group within the Hohe Tauern National Park and is renowned as Austria’s first glacier ski area. Kitzsteinhorn rises dramatically above the Kaprun Valley, offering sweeping panoramic views of the Alps. Thanks to its high altitude and glacial conditions, Kitzsteinhorn guarantees reliable snow coverage from autumn through early summer.
The first recorded ascent of Kitzsteinhorn was made in 1828 by local mountaineer Johann Entacher. In 1965, Austria’s first glacier ski resort was opened here, making Kitzsteinhorn a pioneer in the development of high-altitude tourism in the country. Today, the resort offers approximately 61 kilometers (about 38 miles) of groomed ski slopes for all ability levels, including designated freeride areas and snow parks, as well as 8.9 kilometers (about 5.5 miles) of marked ski routes. The resort is served by 24 cable lifts. Thanks to its high elevation and the presence of a glacier, Kitzsteinhorn provides stable snow conditions for an extended period throughout the year.
Kitzsteinhorn features an alpine climate with cold, snowy winters and cool summers. The average annual precipitation is about 1,058 millimeters (approximately 41.7 inches), with a significant portion falling as snow. Due to the glacial environment, snow persists for most of the year. Key attractions in the area include the Hohe Tauern National Park, established to protect the region’s natural heritage, and the ICE CAMP — an annual winter event featuring spectacular ice sculptures and special activities.
